First-fix copper, water and waste pipework in the timber stud walls of a new bungalow

Case study · New build · Near Ballincollig

Full plumbing and heating for a new bungalow

The job
A family building a one-off bungalow outside Ballincollig wanted one contractor for all the plumbing and heating, from first fix to handover, working to the builder's programme.
What we did
  • Priced first fix and second fix separately, in writing, from the drawings
  • First fix: water, waste and heating pipework run and pressure-tested before the walls and floors were closed
  • Underfloor heating throughout, from a single manifold, with a thermostat in each room
  • Air-to-water heat pump and a pressurised hot water cylinder in the utility room
  • Second fix: kitchen, main bathroom and en-suite connected, tested and commissioned
The result
Finished on the builder's programme, with no return visits needed before the family moved in. They got commissioning records, operating instructions and one person to call about anything plumbing or heating.

New pipework and isolation valves under a kitchen sink

Case study · Leak repair · Douglas

Leak under a kitchen sink, fixed on the first visit

The job
A customer in Douglas rang mid-morning with water coming through the kitchen cupboard and onto the floor. They had turned off the stopcock, but needed the kitchen back in use that evening.
What we did
  • Traced the leak to a corroded fitting on the hot supply to the mixer tap
  • Replaced the fitting and both worn flexible tap connectors
  • Tested under full mains pressure and checked the pipework behind the dishwasher and washing machine
  • Advised on drying out the cupboard base and gave photos and a note for the insurer
The result
Water back on within the hour, at the price agreed before work started, and the kitchen in use that evening. No second visit needed.

Air-to-water heat pump outdoor unit on anti-vibration feet

Case study · Heat pump · Carrigaline

From oil to a heat pump, with the SEAI grant

The job
The owners of a 1990s semi-detached house in Carrigaline had an oil boiler near the end of its life. They wanted to come off oil and use the SEAI heat pump grant.
What we did
  • Room-by-room heat loss survey, so the heat pump and radiators were sized properly
  • Three radiators upsized for low-temperature running, and the whole system power-flushed
  • Air-to-water heat pump with a pressurised hot water cylinder and weather-compensated controls
  • Old oil boiler and tank removed
  • Help with the SEAI grant paperwork, which the owners applied for in their own name
The result
The whole house is now heated at a lower, steadier temperature, with no more oil deliveries. Christy went through the controls with the owners at handover.

Hot water cylinder, pumps and copper pipework in a café plant room

Case study · Commercial · Cork City

Café hot water and washrooms, done before opening

The job
A café in Cork City kept losing hot water in the middle of service and had a leaking washroom cistern, and could not afford to close during trading hours.
What we did
  • Early-morning visits, finished before the café opened
  • Found a failed circulating pump and a faulty cylinder thermostat, and replaced both
  • Hot water system serviced, tested and the controls reset to suit the café's hours
  • Cistern internals and isolation valves replaced in both washrooms
  • Written records for the owner's files and insurer
The result
No lost trading time. The café is now on an annual planned maintenance visit, booked around its opening hours.
