Boilers · Homeowner answer

How long does a boiler last?

Short answer

Usually around 10 to 15 years with annual servicing. Boilers that are never serviced, or that run on a sludged system without a filter, often fail sooner.

What changes the answer

  • servicing history
  • water quality and sludge in the system
  • whether a magnetic filter is fitted
  • make and model

What you can check yourself

  • find the installation date
  • check for a magnetic filter under the boiler

What to do next

If yours is past 12 years and starting to give trouble, get a replacement price before the next breakdown rather than during it.
